C'est fini!

After pulling late hours every night last week, Miss Anice finally slipped off her needles at approximately 11 p.m. Friday evening.  I was so giddy, I was telling our dog and cats what a momentous occasion it was (needless to say, they were not impressed).  Today the shawl should have arrived safely into the hands of Rene Dickey, sweater finisher extraordinaire...my treat to myself...to let her catch the four dropped stitches and block it professionally.  Soon as it's back, I'll post a good photo of it.

Monday I started a shop sample...the Nancy Shawl from Schaefer Yarns.Nancy
Using one skein of their gorgeous yarn (Nancy, mais oui), it is, compared to knitting Anice, like taking a speed boat vs. rowing.  Here's a photo of what I have started...using the color named Indira Ghandi...this is yummy stuff.

What's after that?  Well...I have at least three or four lace patterns I'm slurping over...but am behind on knitting shop samples for now, so it may be mid winter before I find lace time again.  I'd love to hear what you're all knitting, all you lace knitters out there...and many thanks again to all of you who helped me in so many ways.  We're a team!  ---Martie

Way to go, Martie! I'm so happy for you. I can hardly wait to see the pictures. That new yarn you're working with is beautiful (I clicked on the picture to make it bigger--love the way those colors knit up.)

Hi Ruthie: Yes, it's pretty yarn, and it's super nice to knit with...95% merino and 5% nylon, for a nice little spring. Also I'm knitting it on size 10 needles, so it's flying like the wind (well, um, you got the idea).
Thought of you today at work...two *monster* moths outside the shop door...at least 2"+ long, greys/browns...profile rather like a dinosaur, with markings to make them look like they have eyes..Oh, I wish I had a better lens to take pics of these things when I find them! :0) Martie

Martie, congratulations on a job well done! I think one of the reasons we are attracted to lace is that it affords us quiet, reflective time to be alone with our knitting.
I recently finished a lace scarf/small shawl - trying to get a jump on my holiday gifts. I, too, have more lace projects in the queue. But right now they will have to wait behind the sweaters for my kids and the dyeing project I'm involed with.

Hi Stephanie: You're so right; it's rather like that precious few minutes I read each night before falling asleep. It's a perfect ending to my day and if I miss it, I feel cheated. What are you dyeing?
Bennie: Cheryl Schaefer was the first person (to my knowledge) to commercially produce and sell hand painted yarns, back in the late 80s, I think. She's baaaaccckkkkkkkkk...with a vengeance. Hers is a family operation, and she's rockin'...her booth at the wholesale show was like dyeing (pun intended) and going to heaven!

Hi Martie
Congratulations on finishing Anice, I can hardly wait to see the pictures. I'm still working hard on Birch - I've done one third now and it only takes 10 minutes per row now! Amazingly I managed to get a lot done on holiday. I'm plotting my next shawl, maybe Lilly of the valley from Lacestyle but first a hat and jumper for my newly mobile son. And I haven't even taken into consideration any demands from the other 2 boys and their dad!

Sarah...good to hear you're making good progress on Birch! With such a big family to care for, I think you should give yourself a big pat on the back that you're getting so much accomplished. I'll check out that pattern in Lacestyle next time I'm upstairs...I have lots of time to decide on my next lace project and want to make sure I love love love it before I tackle it...

I would like to buy the Schaefer Yarn Nancy shawl pattern. Does anyone know where I can get it? Mucho thanks.
