A bit of heaven
I hope your Thanksgiving was a good one. We had a quiet, cozy dinner at our friend's home, enjoying a delicious dinner and the company of good friends. It doesn't get much better than that.
UNLESS...you're talking about desert...yummmmmm...I took a pie, made from the cookbook I purchased at the Turquoise Room at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, AZ, last time we were there. The Turquoise Room is one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever been to. Featuring a diverse menu at affordable prices, the recipes are out of this world. When we had desert there this fall, I swooned so hard over the pie that after finding out it was in their cookbook, I brought a copy home.
Here it is, or what's left of it. It has a cornmeal crust and its filling is pecans with pinion nuts. They suggest you serve it with Vanilla Bean Gelato, but we toughed it out using Vanilla Taos Cow ice cream (slurp).
If you're looking for a cookbook to give to that special someone this season (yourself, I would suggest), you can order directly from the Turquoise Room. If you're a fan of southwestern cuisine with a really original flair, you won't be disappointed.
PS The rest of this baby goes bye-bye tonight, had to catch it when I could.

ooooh! how could you? now my mouth is watering big time! Thanks for the tip.
Cornmeal crust???? Well, I never! Will have to get the recipe though.
Hope you're doing great!
Thanks for the cookbook recommendation. It sounds like something that would go over big in this household. I made a new pie recipe this holiday - pecan pie with maple syrup. It was a big hit! I'm sure I'll be making it again. ~StephanieG
That pie looks like it could even compete with coconut cake! Yummy!
My oh my! Delicious looking. The foods that show up around the holidays are my favorites. The flavors seem enhanced when the cold temps arrive. Did you two have to struggle over who got the last pie bite?
Well, actually, now that you bring it up...we had a big lunch yesterday at our favorite Mexican place (The Guadalajara Grill, for those who know it), so for dinner last night we split the last piece and dumped ice cream on them. (And I wonder why I'm always fretting over my weight.)
Now I'm craving pecan pie!
Don't forget to warm it up and put that ice cream all over it! :0)
Hi Marti: ohhhhhh myyyyy, you are wicked : ) you remind me that this wonderful place, the Turqoise Room, is just up the street (well sorta) from me and now I'll have to see if DH will take me to lunch there sooooon, like TOMORROW !!!! hahaha : ) wanted to pop in a say "hi", it's been a while. You helped me with a crochet motif you posted back in the spring I believe and were so kind to help me with info on it. I will always remember you kindness. Also, your etsy shop is loooking WONDERFUL : ) I went to the Southwestern Fiber Festival in Amado, AZ this Oct. and loved every moment there, took two classes, needle felting a sunset and microwave dyeing fiber, fabulous !! anyway, I purchased a drop spindle to wrack my nerves in trying to learn, ha. seriously, I love it and hope to even someday GET IT !!! and one last thing, wanted to thank you for the inspiration to dive into my pile(s) to de-stash some things that might be useful, even needed by some, and think generous in time of need, thank you : )
Blessings, Sandra in Payson, AZ
Sandra! I'm so happy to hear from you. YES...get thee to the Turquoise Room!!! If I lived as near as you do, I'm afraid I'd have a, well, habit, if you know what I mean.
We just drove through Payson in October...small world! As I've said many times on this blog, I have Arizona in my blood from my parents having grown up there. Glad you've stayed in touch...good holidays to you...XXX
