Quiet here

There hasn't been anything of note happening here since I last posted...well, except that I got a great new drum carder I haven't had time to work with yet. Starting Thursday morning, we've been picking up the after effects of the storms that have been slamming California. We're on the north end of the front, so maybe only 6-8" of snow for us. It was enough to enjoy staying indoors to spin...I'm working on some new yarns that I'm loving, much finer weight than I usually spin, and quite time consuming.

Our new girl dog will be coming home from boot camp in a few weeks and I'm trying to get myself prepared for having a new member of the household. She's just over a year old and full of you know what. It's going to shake our household to the foundations but will be well worth it all, I know. Here's a photo of the day we picked her up in California. She wasn't quite sure why we were on the scene, but got on the program pretty quickly...especially soon as she found out I had a huge bag of treats.

I see that sweet dog. Hope you get some snow. Not much here. Little rain--2/10ths of an inch. Pretty dog she is. They do love those treats. --Jack.

"Life After Retail." I gotta get a "Life After Teaching." Great subtitle for your blog.

Jack: Truly!!!! I'm not usually short on words, but the day I was trying to conjure up a subtitle, I thought, well that just flat sums it up. No more, no less. Wish I'd had something profound to say, but hey...I'm just paddling along through the fog like everyone else.

True confession. I had written about three long paragraphs and deleted them on your comment area about last week and how I needed a "Life After Teaching" like your subtitle, "Life After Retail." I, too, muddle along.

Sorry I missed them, but I'm sure you are the best judge of what to confess!

Martie! You didn't tell us or me that you were photographed by Robbie Steinbach! I think that's you on her site? I had put up a link today and was going through the names (I know as Ms. Couse)and there you were! Good photograph. You probably have her link. I hope I'm correct here and not making a fool of myself. Not the first time nor last.

It was in the 1980s when I gave a short paper at the Harwood that I met Ms. Couse and she gave me a tour of the I. Couse studio. I'm not for sure if the photograph of Ms. Steinbach's is the one that I met at the Harwood. Long ago and faraway.

My my my. I did not know it was on line. That was quite a huge honor to be among that group of women, not one I probably deserve but am grateful for...one of those lifetime experiences. I don't think I ever told anyone about that photograph because I almost fell over dead when I saw it the first time...the camera does not lie and I was not pleased with it. I am not one for fussing about my appearance, so rarely even look in a mirror...my bad. Maybe I was Amish in a previous life...

Jack: PBS recently showed a great documentary called "Painting Taos". I have been trying to buy a copy but can't find it for sale yet. You can Google this and read about it on the UNM site. It was really interesting and one of the people in the film was Couse's granddaughter, whose first name I can't recall, but is most likely the person you met when you were here. Lucky you to have a personal tour! Hope you can find the film running on your PBS affiliate and see it sometime.
